With the start of October, the Minnesota high school volleyball season begins its home stretch, as teams have just over two weeks until the playoffs begin in earnest. That short window ups the ante for most of the remaining matches, many of which have intense conference and/or section implications.

Of course, when No. 1 and No. 2 square off, that takes precedence over everything else as our pick for the Top Game of the Week. Top-ranked Eagan (17-1, 5-0) hosts second-ranked Lakeville North (17-1, 6-1) in a true Class 3A heavyweight fight Tuesday night.

Neither receives a trophy for winning the match or finishing the season atop the coaches' association poll, but that doesn't mean there aren't serious bragging rights hanging in the balance. The match also should help sort out the South Suburban Conference title race.
