Medford juggernaut finds its way to the 1A championship match

After dispatching the two-time champs on Thursday, the Tigers, led by Emma Kniefel, took out No. 3 seed Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in the semifinals.

The Cinderella story continues for Medford.

For an encore performance after knocking out two-time defending champs Mayer Lutheran in the quarterfinals, Medford ousted the No. 3 seed Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in the Class 1A semifinals on Friday.

The Tigers (29-5) won 22-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-16. They’ll play for a state title in their inaugural trip to the state tournament.

Medford used a 10-1 run in the fourth set to distance themselves and close out the match. 

Medford will face last year’s runner-up Minneota in the Class 1A championship match on Saturday. Emma Kniefel led the way with 19 kills and 14 digs.
