Panthers cruise past Irish for fifth consecutive win

North remains tied atop conference standings with win over Rosemount.

LAKEVILLE, Minn. -- A dominant second set, in which Lakeville North hit .583 and sided out on eight of Rosemount's nine serves, led the Panthers to their fifth consecutive win, a 25-12, 25-8, 25-19 victory over the Irish.

North hit .376 on the night, led by Tori Thompson's 13 kills and .579 hitting percentage. In her last four matches, Thompson has 42 kills and is hitting .567. The team's blocks lead also added added three block assists.

Elizabeth Juhnke provided her solid all-around performance to the win with 10 kills, a .444 hitting percentage, two aces, nine digs and three blocks, while Macy Winter also added 10 kills.

Amelia Wherland set .571 with 28 assists, her third consecutive match over .500 during which time she has 91 assists and a setting percentage of .580.

The only time the Panthers trailed in the match was after allowing the first point of the final set. However, a kill by Thompson tied the score and she then served three consecutive points for a 4-1 lead, which the hosts would not relinquish.

Halle Wolfe had five assists in six set attempts while also recording two aces and a match-high 18 digs.


Tori Thompson hit .579 with a career-high 13 kills.

The Panthers are in action again this weekend with five matches in the Bachman Invitational at Lakeville North. They will open with a 5 p.m. match versus Caledonia, Friday, followed by a 7:30 p.m. match against Cretin-Derham Hall.

Saturday, at 9 a.m., North takes on Jackson County Central  before moving onto bracket play later in the day, in which they will play two more matches.
