Juhnke's big night leads Panthers past Blaze

North sweeps past Burnsville.

BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- Elizabeth Juhnke tied a career high in kills, hit .500 in a match for the first time in her career and ninth-ranked Lakeville North defeated Burnsville, 25-14, 27-25, 25-13.

Juhnke was at her best in the third set, when she recorded 11 of her 22 kills, which included four consecutive kills to give the Panthers a 24-14 lead, and her final kill finished the match to give the visitors their 15th win of the season.

After crusing to a nine-point first-set lead, North was tested by the Blaze in the second set.

After Burnsville scored first and North answered with a Macy Winter kill, the hosts rattled off six consecutive points and would lead until a five-point run, on the strength of Arianna Barrett's serve, gave the Panthers an 18-17 lead and, from there, the team's would battle back and forth to the end.

The Blaze were on the verge of taking the second set when they served for the set at 25-24. However, an attack error gave serve back to North and back-to-back kills by Kennedy Brady gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

Burnsville would jump out to a 6-3 lead in the third set, which it would stretch to four points on two occasions but, after leading 10-6, the Blaze would see North going on a 13-2 run to take a 19-12 lead and Juhnke was responsible for seven of the Panthers' final eight points.

Juhnke finished with 22 kills and a .500 hitting percentage, accounting for half of North's 44 kills while Macy Winter had nine kills and Brady eight.

They were the beneficiaries of 35 kills by Amanda Burger, who had 74 set attempts and a .473 setting percentage.

Halle Wolfe led North on the back end with 14 digs while Barrett had nine. Brady had five blocks, including a pair of solo blocks, as the Panthers raised their record to 15-7 on the season and 6-2 in South Suburban Conference play.

North is slated for give matches over the next two days as they host the Backham Invitational.

The Panthers open tournament play with a 5 p.m. match versus Hill-Murray, followed by a 7:30 p.m. contest with Maple Grove.

Saturday, North faces Cretin-Derham Hall at 9 a.m. in the first of three matches.


Amanda Burger had 35 assists and set at a .473 clip while also record two kills and a service.
