North season ends with four-set loss to Faribault

Panthers drop Section 1AAA opener to Falcons.

LAKEVILLE, Minn. -- Ninth-seeded Faribault went on a 10-1 run and scored 14 of the final 19 points in the fourth set to upend eighth-seeded Lakeville, 25-17, 19-25, 25-17, 25-21 in a Section 1AAA first-round match.

The Panthers scuffled through the first set and into the second set, trailing 5-2, before putting their game together.

North took its first lead of the match at 8-6 in the second set on back-to-back kills by Abigail Grewenow and they would hold onto that lead, using a 14-6 run to extend the lead to eight points before finishing with a six-point win in the set.

The Falcons ratcheted up their hitting game in the third set, recording 14 kills and a .367 hitting percentage while never trailing in the set.

In the final set, is was Faribault's blocking game that made the difference as the Falcons recorded five of their 11 blocks on the night in the decisive set.

Grewenow's eight kills on the night tied her season high and Elizabeth Junke also had eight kills to lead the Panthers up front.

Maddy Wolff recorded 32 assists and 11 digs to notch her sixth double-double of the season and third in the last four matches. Amanda Burger had a team season-high 30 digs on the night.

The Panthers' conclude the 2015 campaign with a 9-20 overall record. The loss was the final match for seniors Grewenow, Wolff, Jennifer German, Abigail Meyer and Natalia O'Hara.
