Eagan downs North to finish unbeaten conference slate

Panthers unable to keep pace with second-ranked Wildcats.

LAKEVILLE, Minn. -- Second-ranked Eagan handed Lakeville North a 25-15, 25-12, 25-19 loss in the final South Suburban Conference game of the season for both teams.

The Panthers got a kill from Amanda Burger to start the match but the Wildcats scored the next three points and would not trail during the remainder of the first set.

However, the teams were tied on six occasions before the visitors broke a 13-13 tie by scoring five consecutive points and 12 of the sets' final 14 points.

In the second set, the teams were tied at 1-1 and 2-2 but Eagan never trailed again, using a 5-0 run to snap the 2-2 tie and, when North closed to within three points of the lead, at 8-5, the Wildcats scored seven consecutive points and never looked back.

In the final set, a seven-point run by the Panthers turned a 5-3 deficit into a 9-5 lead but Eagan overcame the deficit and would snap an 11-1 tie by six of the next seven points a cruised to victory.

Kennedy Brady had a match-high 11 kills on the night for the Panthers. Maddy Wolff contribued 19 assists and Jennifer German, who play just the third set, led the Panthers with three blocks.

The loss finished the Panthers' regular-season with a 9-19 overall record and a 3-6 mark in the South Suburban Conference.

Seeds and pairings for the Section 1AAA playoffs will be announced Sunday night.
