North overcomes two-set deficit to repel Apple Valley

Panthers fend off Eagles in final three sets.

LAKEVILLE, Minn. -- After drooping the first two sets, Lakeville North stormed back to win the final three sets and claim a 22-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-21, 15-13 victory over Apple Valley.

The Eagles never trailed in the first set and, after the teams battled to a 15-15 tie in the second set, Apple Valley went on a 10-2 run to take a two set lead.

Head coach Jackie Richter shook up her lineup in the third set, installing Jennifer German and Abigail Meyer into the match and German chipped in with three kills in a set in which the hosts never trailed.

The Panthers got seven kills in the set from Elizabeth Junke and three each from Macy Winter and Kennedy Brady as well.

The fourth set saw six tie scores and five lead changes but a block by Brady and Maddy Wolf set North off on an 8-2 run before the Eagles got back to within two at 22-20.

It was Brady and Wolff providing the finishing touches to the match as Wolff set up Brady for two kills and the pair combined on another block to account for the Panthers' final three points, sending the match to a fifth set.

The Panthers scored the first two points of the final set and German played a key role with four kills and a block assist. The team's serve receive game kicked into high gear in the final set as well as North earned points on 10 of Apple Valley's 13 serves.

Juhnke led four Panthers' in double figures in kills with 17 while Brady added 16, Winter 15 and German 10. Brady also added five block assists.

In one of her best matches of the season, setter Maddy Wolff set season highs with 48 assists, three block assists and 16 digs while matching her season high with four kills.

Defensively, five North players were in double figures in digs as Juhnke led the way with 24 along with Wolff's 16. Amanda Burger and Arianna Barrett both had 12 digs and Macy Winter added 10.

The Panthers will wrap up their regular-season schedule, Thursday, when they host South Suburban Conference foe in a 7 p.m. match.
