Last Tuesday, the Thunder girls held their home-opener against the Holdingford Huskers.

The two teams played a crazy five-set match last year in the first round of the playoffs, so Holdingford was looking for some redemption. The girls held on to win a couple close sets and take the match 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-9).

Just like in Osakis, the girls took a big lead early in the first game, but let the Huskers back into it. The girls played well enough to squeak by with a win in the first set.

The second set was close throughout the game, with the Thunder only holding on to a small lead throughout. The Thunder were able to hold on and win a close set thanks to a six kill set by Jenna Langer.

In the deciding set, the Roe cousins of Lesley and Sara served the Thunder into a big lead and ran away with the game against a tired Huskers team. “It was clear tonight that we have a pretty nice offense with four to six girls who can go for a lot of kills,” coach Brad Hollenhorst said. “The key for us will be consistency and not needing to rely on one or two girls to carry the offense.”

Langer led the team in kills on the night, finishing with 14. Megan Pohlmann also had a nice night offensively adding eight kills. Langer led the team in digs with 15 while Jade Line added 10, respectively. Lesley Roe finished the night with 16 set assists.
