Thunder beat Silverstreaks 3-1 in conference opener

On August 30, the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle traveled to Osakis for their Prairie Conference opener. The girls played some close sets but were able to prevail 3-1 (20-25, 25-13, 26-24, 27-25).

In the first set, the Thunder were able to control the possessions well and get good swings, which allowed them to build an 11-2 lead.

However, early in the season, many matches are decided by who makes fewer mistakes. In the second half of the set, Osakis was able to improve their play while the Thunder committed many hitting errors, allowing the Silverstreaks to take set 1.

The Thunder responded well in set 2 by getting the passing game going allowing a very successful offensive attack. Jenna Langer, Sara Roe, and Megan Pohlmann all had several successful attacks in set 2.

Emily Jansen and Lesley Roe were able to distribute the ball very well allowing the Thunder attackers to make good hits, taking the final two sets.

“I was really pleased with our team chemistry, communication, and the poise we showed on the court,” head coach Brad Hollenhorst said. “The girls looked focused and determined to come back in the third and fourth sets after being down.”
