Matches between Concordia Academy and Holy Angels have been nothing short of competitive the last few years and on Tuesday night the teams met in Roseville with first place in the Tri-Metro Conference on the line.

In 2016, the Beacons went undefeated in conference matchups, including a 3-1 victory over the Stars. Holy Angels responded last year by beating the Beacons 3-2 to clinch the Tri-Metro title.

First Report

Concordia Academy claimed the top spot in the Tri-Metro Conference with a 25-17, 21-25, 25-17, 25-17 win against Holy Angels, ranked No. 9 in the Class 2A coaches’ association poll, on Tuesday night at home.

Sophomore Kira Fallert, who was second in the state in kills going into the match, added 10 more to her total, including the match winner.

The Beacons (20-3, 7-0) held about a three-point advantage through most of the first set, with a couple big runs pushing them past the Stars to take the first set 25-17.

The Stars (18-4, 6-1) took control in the second set. They led 22-15 for what looked like an equal response to No. 4-2A Concordia Academy’s first set win, however, the Beacons fought back and were down 24-21 before the Stars could end the set.

Concordia Academy won the third and fourth set to continue its unbeaten conference record while ending the Stars’ unbeaten run in league play. Junior Lauren Link, an outside hitter, had 15 kills for Holy Angels.
