First report

Shakopee turned up the heat in the second set against Eastview on Thursday, and went on to beat the Lightning in three sets — 25-22, 25-14 and 25-19 — to stay above .500 in  South Suburban Conference play.

The Sabers (12-6, 3-2) broke a 5-5 tie in the second set by going on a 9-0 run, led by Maddie Forsberg's three kills and Aryana Fratzke's two kills and a block assist. The Sabers pulled away 14-5 on their way to a 25-14 win.

The Lightning (7-7, 3-2) never led until the third set, but the Sabers rallied to take that 25-19 after trailing early.

Shakopee, ranked No. 7 in the Class 3A state coaches' poll, started strong with a 25-22 win in the first set. The Sabers have won two straight matches and trail South Suburban-leading Eagan by three games.
