Fans' Choice for Top Performer

Sarah Luong, Benilde-St. Margaret’s. Luong helped engineer two victories for Benilde-St. Margaret’s last week, and piled up 73 assists in the process. The junior setter recorded 29 assists in a Sept. 11 sweep of Cretin-Derham Hall, then totaled 44 assists, two aces and seven digs in a 3-2 win over Chaska two days later. Her 292 assists this season are among the best in Minnesota.

Top performer candidates

Syra Tanchin, St. Michael-Albertville. Tanchin, a North Dakota State recruit, racked up 29 kills, including 17 in a 3-0 victory over Princeton on Sept. 11, in two matches last week and helped lead the Knights to a pair of Mississippi 8 Conference victories.

Marlee Turn, Kittson County Central. Turn was terrific last week, stuffing the stat sheet and helping lead the Bearcats to three victories. The 5-foot-8 junior middle hitter was particularly impressive in a 3-0 victory over Warren-Alvarado-Oslo on Sept. 11, recording 16 kills without an error. She capped her week posting 13 kills, five digs and 13 service receptions in a 2-0 defeat of Benson.

MaeLea Harmon, Waterville-Elysian-Morristown. The senior outside hitter helped the Buccaneers cruise to two victories last week. Harmon's explosive play resulted in 26 kills, 18 assists and 11 digs in a 3-0 win over Tri-City United on Sept. 11. She followed two days later with seven kills, 21 assists and nine digs in a 3-0 win over Maple River.

Olivia Tjernagel, Mayer Lutheran. The Northern Iowa recruit's 115 kills lead Mayer Lutheran this season, and last week she led the Crusaders to a pair of road wins. At Glencoe-Silver Lake on Sept. 11, Tjernagel's eight kills, four digs, one solo block and six block assists led Mayer Lutheran to a 3-1 win. She then picked up 11 kills in a 3-1 win at Jordan on Sept. 13.
