When Eagan sophomore Kennedi Orr plays club volleyball, she’s exclusively a setter. And a good one. She helped the Northern Lights 17-1 team to a Junior Olympic national championship this summer.

First Report

In a match that had a postseason-like feel to it, Eagan emerged on top Tuesday. The Wildcats, ranked No. 3 in the Class 3A coaches’ poll, defeated No. 5-3A Stillwater in four sets, 25-21, 18-25, 25-14, 25-22.

Eagan (2-0) remains undefeated thanks in part to the two-player attack of sophomore Kennedi Orr and senior Ellie Husemann. Orr finished with a team-best 15 kills, including six in the final set.

Husemann, a University of Minnesota commit, had 10 kills for the Wildcats. Junior outside hitter Ling Wong was also key with five kills in the fourth set, including a kill that gave Eagan the match.

After a rough first set, Stillwater (3-2) tightened things up and took the second. The Ponies evened the match at one thanks in part to junior outside hitter Maddie Whittington. She had five kills in the second set and finished with a team-best 11.
