North goes to 2-0 win sweep of Bethlehem Academy

Panther defense shuts down Cardinals


Macy Winter had nine kills and nine digs in the win over BA.

FARIBAULT,  Minn. -- Tori Thompson recorded a career-high 12 kills while hitting .579 as #3AAA Lakeville North cruised to its second consecutive straight-set win, a 25-17, 25-12, 25-14 win at #4A Bethlehem Academy.

After a slow start, which saw the Panthers trailing until the first set was tied at 6-6, North turned up the defensive pressure, holding the Cardinals to a -.032 hitting percentage while record three blocks, all of which included Kennedy Brady, who had a solo and two assists.

The second set saw North use a seven-point run to snap a 3-3 tie, behind the service of Arianna Barrett, and the Panthers cruised to a 13-point second-set win.

North committed just one service error in the second set and no receiving errors as the defense carried the Panthers to an .833 sideout percentage.

Meanwhile, up front, North hit .370 with Thompson record six kills in eight attack attempts.

Barrett's service played a key roll in the third set and, after trailing 2-1, she and Macy Winter used their service to put the Panthers ahead 14-4.

BA would close to within five points at 19-14 but, after a kill by Winter, Halle Wolfe served five consecutive points with Thompson recording her final three kills of the night during the final five points.

North held the Cardinals to a -.030 hitting percentage in the final set and a -.022 percentage on the night while hitting .301.

Thompson's 12 kills led the way at the net for the Panthers while Winter had nine kills, Elizabeth Juhnke eight and Kennedy seven.

Setters Amanda Burger and Amelia Wherland had 18 and 17 assists respectively while, in the back row, Wolfe had 12 digs while Winter and Juhnke each had nine.

Next up for the Panthers is a 5 p.m. game, Thursday, when they open the home portion of their 2017 schedule by taking on East Ridge on Fan and Youth Appreciation Night.
