There is more change coming in the high school coaching ranks, this time at Burnsville.

Girls’ basketball coach Steve Ray and volleyball coach Kim (Hook) Fritz both recently announced their resignations, according to athletic and activities director Jeff Marshall.

Ray is stepping down after six seasons leading the girls’ basketball program to spend more time with his family. He will remain at the school as an educational assistant.

Marshall called Ray “a strong asset to the girls’ program, growing the participation numbers each year and consistently putting together a competitive team.” The Blaze went 5-21 this past season and finished eighth in the tough South Suburban Conference. “Steve’s development of the girls within his program, both as players and as people, will be missed.”

Fritz leaves after three seasons guiding the Blaze volleyball program. The team finished with a 19-7 record this past season in a three-way tie atop the conference standings. She was selected as the conference coach of the year.

“Kim has done a tremendous job during her three-year tenure of developing players and coaching them to their highest potential,” Marshall said. “Her leadership, dedication, and commitment to the program will be sorely missed.”

Fritz will continue to teach health and physical education in the district.

School record

Visitation senior guard Haley Housh became the school’s career scoring leader this past season, eclipsing the previous mark by one point. Housh finished with 1,459 points. Katie Bernabei, a 1998 graduate, owned the record of 1,458 career points.

The four-year starter and captain averaged 16.3 points and three assists per game in her final season. She has been selected to the Tri-Metro all-conference team the past three years.
