We task our reporters with identifying several intriguing games throughout the state to assemble our Top Games of the Week. The matchups are presented in no particular order, and when there are additional games we want to highlight, we’ll include them with brief notes.

Other games to keep an eye on

Barnesville vs. Hawley, 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 8. Hawley escaped a Class 2A, Section 8 semifinal over Barnesville last season and went on to place third at the state tournament. The teams meet in a Heart O'Lakes Conference opener on Thursday.

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa vs. Paynesville, 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 8. Both of these teams won 20 or more games last season and reached their section championship game. B-B-E started the season ranked 10th in Class 1A but lost its opener to No. 8-1A MACCRAY. The Jaguars (0-1) hope to get back on track in a Central Minnesota Conference opener against Class 2A Paynesville (3-2).
