Katie Brandl, Forest Lake. Few players assisted their teammates as much as Brandl did last week. She had 48 assists in a Sept. 7, 3-1 win over Anoka. She followed that with a 29-assist performance against No. 6-1A Bethlehem Academy on Saturday, Sept. 11. Forest Lake lost three games later that day at the Shakopee Invitational, but Brandl continued to assist her teammates and finished with 126 assists last week.
Alyda Vande Griend, Edgerton. The sophomore had seven solo blocks during Edgerton’s Sept. 7, 3-1 win against Westbrook-Walnut Grove. She had two more solo blocks in a 3-1 win over Southwest Minnesota Christian, and she is now one of the leaders in the state in solo blocks with 27.
Emily Pearce, Legacy Christian. Pearce could’ve challenged Brandl if she had a few more games, but she still assisted an impressive 79 times in two games last week. She had 50 assists in a 2-3 loss to St. Croix Lutheran on Sept. 7. She also added 15 digs in the win on Thursday. She has 186 assists through the first five games of the season.
Tezra Rudzitis, Legacy Christian. She had 27 kills in the 2-3 loss to St. Croix Lutheran. It was her fourth consecutive game with more than 20 kills, and even though her streak came to an end in a 3-0 win over Eagle Ridge Academy on Sept. 9, she still finished with 16 kills to round out the week.
Janae Sjodin, Wrenshall. Sjodin had 31 digs and five service aces in a 3-1 win over Moose Lake-Willow River on Sept. 7. Sjodin’s performance helped Wrenshall reach 1-0 in the Polar Conference and dropped Moose Lake-Willow River to 0-2.
Abby Standwood, Minnetonka. She appeared on this list last week, but she had another strong week for No.7-4A Minnetonka. She had 79 kills, including 20 in a 2-3 loss to No. 2-4A Shakopee, in six games last week. She added to those kills with 29 digs in the game against Shakopee, bringing her total to 66 for the week.
