Panthers place fourth at Bachman Invitationl

Home winning streak ends at 37 with defeats in final two matches.

LAKEVILLE, Minn. -- Lakeville North won all three of its matches in pool play but dropped both matches Saturday afternoon in bracket play, finishing fourth in the 35th annual Todd L. Bachman Invitational.

North defeated No. 8A Caledonia, 25-22, 25-22, to open tournament play and followed with a 25-9, 23-25, 15-12 win over Section 1 foe Rochester Century.

Saturday, the Panthers made quick work of Eden Prairie, defeating the Eagles 25-18, 25-20 in a 42-minute match to move onto Gold Bracket championship play.

There, North dropped a 20-25, 31-29, 7-15 decision to No. 1AA Stewartville, ending a 37-match home winning streak, before falling 20-25, 18-25 to No. 4AA Marshall.

With Maddy Hornyak returning to the lineup, but only playing as a defensive specialist Friday, Ella Thompson moved to the outside, where she led the Panthers with 40 kills and 97 attacks, as well as with eight total blocks.

Abbey Milner had 39 kills in 81 attempts and led the team with a .309 hitting percentage. She also had four aces and a team-best .957 serve percentage.

The Panthers round out their South Suburban Conference scheduled, Tuesday, when they are at Rosemount for a 7 p.m. match, followed by Thursday's regular-season finale, also scheduled for 7 p.m., at Bloomington Jefferson.
