Eighth-ranked North downs 10th-ranked Hopkins in three sets

LAKEVILLE, Minn. -- Maddy Hornyak recorded 17 kills to lead eighth-ranked Lakeville North to a .453 team hitting percentage and a 25-16, 25-19, 25-11 win over 10th-ranked Hopkins in the season opener for both teams.

Sophomore Abby Jandro, making her Panther debut, made her presence felt immediately, recording four kills and eight assists in 16 attempts in the first set.

The second set featured Halle Wolfe's 10 digs with Jandro recording 10 assists before North stepped on the gas pedal in the final set, getting eight kills in 12 attempts from Hornyak as the Panthers never trailed.

Jandro's debut featured 29 assists and five kills while Abbey Milner accounted for 10 points with seven kills and three aces. Wolfe had match highs with 15 digs and six aces.

North will be home again Tuesday, Aug. 27, to take on Minnetonka.


Maddy Hornyak had a career-high 17 kills and hit .607 on the night.
