Top games: Mayer Lutheran meets rival Watertown-Mayer in bid to return to Class 1A prominence

We task our reporters with identifying several intriguing games throughout the state to assemble our Top Games of the Week. The matchups are presented in no particular order, and when there are additional games we want to highlight, we’ll include them with brief notes.






Other games to keep an eye on

Minnetonka vs. Lakeville North, 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 27. Minnetonka (2-0, 1-0) opened the season with victories over Buffalo and Stillwater. The No. 8-3A Panthers (1-0, 0-0) defeated No. 10-3A Hopkins in their season opener.

Chaska vs. Lakeville South, 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 29. No. 2-3A Lakeville South (0-0, 0-0) is coming off a third-place finish at last year's state tournament and has an abundance of positive energy. Chaska (1-1, 0-0), meanwhile, wants to erase the sting of Saturday's 3-0 loss to Shakopee.

Shakopee vs. New Prague, 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 3. Shakopee (1-0, 0-0) knocked out the Trojans in the Class 3A, Section 2 playoffs last season. No. 9-3A New Prague (2-0, 0-0) opened its season with straight-set victories over Mayer Lutheran and Belle Plaine.
