St. Michael-Albertville vs. Moorhead

7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 19

Moorhead (10-11) has a few quality victories this season (Elk River, Stewartville), but the Spuds have taken a beating from metro-area teams this season.

A victory over No. 10-4A St. Michael-Albertville (21-6, 4-2 Lake) would be a nice confidence-booster heading into the Class 4A Section 8 tournament. The Spuds have participated in each of the last five Class 3A state tournaments but will face heavy competition from the Knights, Rogers and Elk River in the section tournament this year.

Moorhead, a Class 4A Independent surrounded by smaller schools and bordered by North Dakota, has put a lot of miles on this season preparing for the end-of-season tournaments. The Spuds opened the season with losses at Stillwater, Chaska and Champlin Park and spent last weekend at the Bachman Invitation at Lakeville North, where they beat No. 2-3A Stewartville and Lakeville South.

The Knights, meanwhile, watched a 13-game winning streak come to an end with a 2-0 loss to No. 1-4A Wayzata in the final of their Fall Classic tournament.
