Prior Lake vs. Minnetonka

7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 20

Minnetonka and senior Abby Stanwood got the short end of the recognition stick during the preseason. Both the team and player are making it difficult to ignore them as the season progresses.

Minnetonka's only loss over its first nine matches came at No. 5-4A Shakopee. Stanwood has 83 kills, 77 digs and 11 service aces in the 8-2 start. The Skippers, unranked in the preseason, are now ranked No. 8 in Class 4A.

The season has been less rewarding for Prior Lake. It has lost six of its first seven matches but nevertheless boasts one of the state's best players in senior outside hitter Julia Hanson. The Lakers (2-6) have played a difficult schedule, with losses coming to No. 7-4A Chaska (twice), No. 6-4A East Ridge, No. 10-4A Northfield and No. 3-1A Canby.

What looks like a mismatch could be closer than expected. And, no matter what happens in this game, fans will be treated to a floor full of volleyball talent.
