St. Paul Academy vs. Providence Academy

7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16

In a rematch from a one-sided meeting in late September, St. Paul Academy and Providence Academy play for a share of the Independent Metro Athletic Conference title.

St. Paul Academy swept the first duel at home, 25-16, 25-21, 25-18, and it can lock up sole possession of first place with a win. The Spartans finished atop the division last season.

Led by Blythe Rients and her 325 kills — sixth in the state — the offense for the Spartans (16-6, 8-1) is powered by setters Arie Walker (341 assists) and Kathleen Bishop (280 assists).

Providence Academy, hoping for at least a share of the title, lost to Mounds Park Academy 3-2 on Oct. 11, which tied the two teams at 7-2 in conference play. The Lions need a winning result to force at least a two-way, and perhaps a three-way tie atop the standings, depending on Mounds Park Academy’s finale at Blake.

Kate Neill leads the Lions (12-13, 7-2) with 226 kills, while Mimi Meadows has 182. Hannah Schommer has 484 set assists. Neil is ninth in the state with 55 service aces.
