Minnetonka vs. Wayzata

7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 17

Minnetonka can increase its Lake Conference lead against second-place Wayzata, which is looking for another win over a quality opponent.

The Trojans, meanwhile, hope to overturn last year's trend that saw the Skippers sweep both matches in the regular-season series. After going winless in league play in 2017, Wayzata can upend its rival and play spoiler.

With 171 combined kills, Elizabeth Helmich (94) and Lily Emlong (77) lead a Wayzata (7-4, 2-1) attack that has outscored its opponents 671-571. Setter Olivia Johnson averages 9.8 assists per set.

Minnetonka remains tough, however, averaging 7.4 kills and 11.1 digs per set. The No. 5-3A Skippers have outscored opponents 912 to 710 and have yet to go to a fifth set yet this season.

Erin Shoemaker (176 kills) and Skyler Germann (135 kills) get the bulk of the attempts for Minnetonka (12-2, 2-0). The duo is fed by Dresden Pass, who has 454 assists. Three players have at least 120 digs, led by Drew McDougal’s 172.
