Hayfield at Kasson-Mantorville
7:15 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 5

There’s a logjam at the top of the Hiawatha Valley League, as five teams currently each have one loss. Two of those teams play Thursday, which should help sort out the mess.

Hayfield (15-3, 7-1) is on a roll, picking up a huge victory over No. 2-2A Stewartville last Tuesday, the Tigers’ first league loss. The Vikings' only Hiawatha Valley loss was in five sets to Kenyon-Wanamingo on Sept. 14 as the top teams have rotated beating each other thus far. Kate Kruger had 15 kills for No. 5-1A Hayfield in the win over the Tigers, while Carrie Rutledge added 13 kills and 31 digs and Maggie Streightiff posted 14 kills, 27 set assists and 22 digs.

Kasson-Mantorville (10-8, 4-1) is also in the conference title mix with a 3-0 loss at Stewartville last Thursday its lone blemish in Hiawatha Valley play. As expected, imposing 6-foot junior Peyton Suess has been a force at the net, leading the team in kills, while junior Abbey Bigelow has continued to excel in the setter role for the No. 10-2A KoMets.
