Minnetonka vs. Hopkins
7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 19

The Lake Conference lead is at stake Tuesday night at Hopkins, although it’s still plenty early.

Minnetonka won its opening conference match in straight sets last Thursday, beating Wayzata at home. The No. 10-3A Skippers (8-3, 2-0) have surprised thus far, as coach Karl Katzenberger had just three returning letterwinners yet managed to jump into the top-10 rankings in Class 3A after winning the Eden Prairie Tournament in early September. Junior Dresden Pass has excelled in taking over for five-year starter Isabelle Aragon-Menzel at setter.

Hopkins currently sits atop the circuit with a 2-0 record, having beaten Edina and Eden Prairie last week. The No. 6-3A Royals (9-2, 2-0) had a nine-match winning streak ended in the final game of their home tournament on Saturday, losing to Maple Grove 2-1. All-state senior setter Tara Lee anchors the team, feeding hitters Anna Erickson, Jane Nelson, and Nyakim Tut and Chudear Tut.
