Minneapolis Southwest at Benilde-St. Margaret's
7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12

Benilde-St. Margaret’s isn’t ranked, but that won't hold up much longer for the Red Knights (7-1), who haven’t lost to a Minnesota team this year (their one loss was to River Falls, Wisc., in the championship match of this past weekend’s Irondale tournament). Junior outside hitter Maizy Jackson is supremely athletic and talented, drawing strong college interest. She leads the Red Knights with 53 kills (against just six hitting errors in 97 attempts, for a terrific .485 hitting percentage).

Minneapolis Southwest has run up against a difficult early schedule and is better than its record reflects. The Lakers (1-3) finally won their first match of the year last week against Minneapolis North and could be poised for a big run. A victory at Benilde-St. Margaret’s would be a great stepping off point. Setter Lily Landis was an all-Minneapolis City Conference pick last year and leads Southwest with 60 set assists, while Grace Legris and Gabby McCaa have 22 and 18 kills, respectively. McCaa, an imposing 6-foot-4 junior middle, has drawn plenty of college interest and could play a great foil to Jackson in this match.
