Chaska at Hopkins
7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 2

Chaska was ranked No. 1 in Class 3A in the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association preseason poll but was upset in five sets last Thursday by Prior Lake, No. 10 in Class 2A. With the Hawks (1-1) and the Lakers (2-1) residing in Section 2AAA, Chaska's loss could be a blow to its postseason seeding.

However, the Hawks have plenty of time to recover and one loss shouldn't effect this veteran team's focus. Seniors Erin Schindler, Sarah Kelly, and Makayla Wenzel have all committed to college volleyball programs and senior Lauren Nordvold and junior Keena Seiffert could soon follow.

Hopkins, No. 5-3A, recorded impressive three-set sweeps of Osseo (No. 8) and Jordan (No. 6 in Class 2A) despite senior setter Samantha Seliger-Swenson playing with a sprained ankle. Seliger-Swenson, the preseason favorite to win the state's Miss Volleyball award and a University of Minnesota recruit, kept the Royals humming and is the leader of a senior-laden lineup with Ruby Moreland, Ingrid Werner, Audrey Erickson and Ellie Maag. With sophomores Greta Werner and Jasmyn Martin in the mix, Hopkins should be a factor in Section 6AAA.
