This week's winner

Kincaid Strain, Elk RiverStrain led the Elks to a 25-20, 19-25, 25-21, 25-22 victory over North Branch on Oct. 19, finishing with 43 assists and seven digs. The 5-10 senior wrapped her final regular season at Elk River with the 736 assists (sixth-most in the state) and 262 digs.

Player of the Week candidates

Mia Curtis, Minnehaha Academy: Curtis helped the Redhawks curb Christian Life in a 19-25, 27-25, 25-9, 15-25, 15-12 win on Oct. 16, recording 35 assists and 17 digs. The 5-foot-8 sophomore also had 22 sets in a 25-17, 25-16, 25-21 victory over Breck on Oct. 17 to finish the regular season with team-high 278 assists.

Madison Mayer, Dassel-Cokato: The senior posted 13 assists and 15 digs in a 25-20, 26-24, 25-21 win over Annandale on Oct. 17. Mayer ended the regular season second on the team in kills (60 kills), assists (112) and digs (119).

Brooke Weichbrodt, Concordia Academy: A 5-9 freshman, Weichbrodt had 26 of Concordia Academy’s 29 assists, helping the Beacons defeat New Life Academy 25-23, 25-17, 25-14 on Oct. 17. She also had seven digs, two kills and two aces in the match. She closed the regular season with an impressive 724 sets, seventh most in the state this year.

Elizabeth Juhnke, Lakeville North: She slammed 17 kills and added nine digs in Lakeville North’s easy 25-11, 25-12, 25-13 victory at Bloomington Jefferson on Oct. 18. The 6-1 junior enters the postseason with 340 kills (ninth most in the state) and 221 digs.
