No. 1 Wildcats garner three-set win over No. 2 Panthers

EAGAN, Minn. -- It was a battle of the state's number one and two ranked teams when Lakeville North and Eagan took the court to meet for the second time this season.

Both sported 17-1 records and, in their first meeting, just 10 days previous, the Wildcats had to stave off a pair of set points to claim a 31-29 opening set win, going on to a 2-0 win in the championship of Apple Valley's Eagle Invitational.

When the teams met for their scheduled South Suburban Conference match, Eagan had no such problems, cruising to a 25-16, 25-16, 25-16 win.

The Panthers got better as the night went on, hitting -.028 in the first set by raising that to .074 in the second and .179 in the third, they were unable keep up with a Wildcat attack which had only eight hitting errors and a .359 hitting percentage.

Errors plagued North as the Panthers gave up 41 points on 25 attack errors, nine service errors, three receiving errors, three block errors  and a ball handling error.

It wasn't all negative for the visitors, however. Elizabeth Juhnke recorded her third consecutive, and sixth of the season, double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs, while also recording a team-high four blocks.

Macy Winter led the team with 12 kills in 30 attempts, and Kennedy Brady had her 13th multiple-block game of the season in 19 matches.

The Panthers now have a week off before returning for their busiest week of the year, with a pair of conference match scheduled next week before hosting the Bachman Invitational.

All seven matches on next week's slate are at home with North hosting Farmington, Tuesday, and Eastview, Thursday, in a pair of 7 p.m. games.
