North goes back to work, sweeps Shakopee

After suffering first loss, Panthers get back in the win column.

SHAKOPEE, Minn. -- Two days after seeing its 15-game winning streak snapped by now top-ranked  Eagan, No. 2 Lakeville North posted a straight-set win at No. 6 Shakopee, 25-19, 25-17, 25-13.

The Panthers got contributions in all areas of the game, hitting .300 for the match with five players recording at least eight kills.

Leading the way was Elizabeth Juhnke, who recorded 13 kills. Macy Winter and and Arianna Barrett had nine kills apiece while middles Kennedy Brady and Tori Thompson each had eight kills while hitting better than .300.

Amerlia Wherland had a season-best .500 setting percentage, with 15 of her 30 sets going for kills, while Amanda Burger had 18 assists.

North also recorded 53 digs in three sets, an effort which limited the Sabres to just an .041 hitting percentage. Halle Wolfe, who passed 23 of 24 serves successfully, led the way with 18 digs while Juhnke recorded her fourth double-double of the season by added 11 digs.

The match started out with North hitting .425 in the opening set, recording 21 of their 25 points with kills.

The second set was tightly contested through the first 20 points, with eight ties and five lead changes leading to a 10-10 tie before the Panthers outscored their hosts, 15-7, to close out the frame.

North then dominated the third set, leading wire to wire as they hit .364 with 18 kills to go with three service aces to account for 21 of its 25 points in the set.

Next up for the Panthers is Thursday's return home when they host the South Suburban Conference's only other unbeaten team, Lakeville South, in a 7 p.m.


Elizabeth Juhnke notched her fourth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 11 digs.
