North wins battle of top 10 teams.

Elizabeth Juhnke had 15 kills, 18 digs, three blocks two aces and an assist in the win over East Ridge.

LAKEVILLE, Minn. -- It took five sets and nearly two hours but #3 Lakeville North remained unbeaten with a 23-25, 25-15, 25-17, 20-25, 15-11 win over #7 East Ridge.

The opening set provided fans with a glimpse of what the entire match would look like as the teams traded the lead nine times and were tied at 14 points.

The difference turned out to be three service aces by the Raptors, compared to just one for the Panthers as both teams record 10 kills, 10 assists and 16 digs.

The second set saw the teams trade the first six points before East Ridge grabbed a 5-3 lead and the teams would be tied at 8-8 before North took its first lead at 9-8, went ahead by three points on a service ace by Elizabeth Juhnke and a kill by Macy Winter, and they would not relinquish the lead.

The Panthers slowly pulled away from there by putting together a series of two- and three-point runs while not allow the Raptors back-to-back points.

The third set opened with the hosts scoring the first two points before the guests scored the next three.

North would eventually regain the lead but did not pull away until going on a 7-0 run behind Juhnke's serve to take a 21-12 lead.

East Ridge responded by scoring the next three points, but a kill by Juhnke halted the run and the Panthers took a 2-1 lead in the match.

North took a 6-1 lead in the fourth set and appeared poised to put the match away in four sets before the Raptors battled back, using an 11-4 run to take a 12-10 lead.

A block by Arianna Barrett and Kennedy Brady got the Panthers to within a point of the lead, at 21-20, but East Ridge scored the final five points to send the match to a fifth and deciding set.

The teams traded the lead twice and were tied three times in the final set but a Tori Thompson kill, followed by an ace by Barrett and a kill by Winter gave North a three-point lead and kills by Juhnke and Brady finally put the match away.

Juhnke had five kills in six attempts in the final set and led the Panthers with 15 kills and 19 points. Macy Winter (12) and Tori Thompson (10) also finished in double-figures in kills.

Defensively, North recorded 94 digs, with five players in double figures, led by Halle Wofle (28) and Juhnke (18). The Panthers also recorded 13 blocks with Brady record two solo and eight total blocks and Arianna Barrett had five.

Amelia Wherland recorded a career-high 27 assists and a .409 set percentage while Amanda Burger had 23 assists.

North is idle until hosting Minnetonka, Wednesday, Sept. 6, in a 7 p.m. match before travelling next weekend to take part in the Southwest Minnesota Challenge in Marshall, Minn., Friday and Saturday.
