Panthers open 2017 campaign with road win

PLYMOUTH, Minn. -- Lakeville North hit .371, including .588 in the opening set, and served 18 aces en route to a 25-15, 25-13, 25-20 win at Wayzata to open the 2017 campaign.

The third-ranked Panthers jumped out quickly to a 3-0 lead on a kill by Macy Winter and a pair of aces by Halle Wolfe and, only twice in first set would the hosts score consecutive points, closing to 3-2 with back-to-back point, and a four-point run which cut North's 18-9 lead to five points.

The second set saw the visitors jump out to a 4-0 lead on Amanda Burger's serve, with the senior co-captain serving back-to-back aces.

Much like the opening set, the Trojans could only string together consecutive points twice while North scored two or more points on all but one rotation.

The third set saw the teams exchange the lead three times and the fifth tie of the set came at 9-9 before the Panthers scored six consecutive points, getting three consecutive kills from Elizabeth Juhnke and two more aces from Burger.

In all, North hit .371 with Juhnke recording 12 kills while Kennedy Bradyand Tori Thompson each had seven kills, combining for a .619 hitting percentage.

Burger had eight aces and 19 assists to lead the Panthers. Wolfe added four aces and Amelia Wherland added 12 assists.

North has a pair of matches on tap next week, taking on #4A Bethlehem Academy in Faribault, Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Panthers then open the home portion of their schedule, facing Minnetonka in a 5 p.m. match.
