North loses hard-fought three-set match to top-ranked Wildcats

Eagan overcomes early deficit to sweep North.

LAKEVILLE, Minn. -- Eagan fended off two set points to open the match and the top-ranked Wildcats were able to hand 10th-ranked Lakeville North, 26-24, 25-18, 25-17.

Until the Wildcats took an 11-10 lead in the opening set, the Panthers had not trailed and neither team led by more than three points in the opening frame.

North took a 24-22 lead on an Arianna Barrett ace and, facing set point, Eagan called a timeout, proceeding to side out before serving out the set.

After trading the lead three times with eight ties in the first set, there were eight more ties and four lead changes in the second set. However, the Wildcats grabbed the lead for good at 13-12 and a 5-0 run turned a an 18-16 score into a seven-point lead, which turned out to be the final margin.

The visitors carried the momentum into the third set and, after breaking a 3-3 tie, never trailed.

Kennedy Brady was the Panthers' most efficient hitter on the night, recording seven kills in 12 attempts without an error, posting a season-high .583 hitting percentage. She also had three block assists

Elizabeth Juhnke notched her sixth double-double of the season as she had match highs with 13 kills and 11 digs. She accounted for 14.5 points by adding an ace and a block assist to her totals.

Next up for the Panthers is Thursday's South Suburban Conference match at Eastview, which is slated for a 7 p.m. first serve.
