If conference standings implications and talented teams are the benchmarks for a big game, then this week's showdown between Kenyon-Wanamingo and Kasson-Mantorville certainly fits the bill.
The Knights, the No. 3 team in the Class 2A coaches’ poll, had five consecutive straight-set victories before losing Saturday to No. 8-1A Caledonia at the Wabasha-Kellogg tournament. Kenyon-Wanamingo is 2-0 in Hiawatha Valley League play and kicks off its remaining conference slate Tuesday in a showdown with No. 9-2A Kasson-Mantorville.
The Knights swept last year's meeting, but duplicating that result may not be easy against a rising KoMets team.
Kasson-Mantorville is also tied atop the league standings with a 3-0 record and enters off back-to-back league victories over Rochester Lourdes and Triton.
With two of southeastern Minnesota's top programs meeting for control of their league, this is our pick for the Top Game of the Week.
