Sept. 17: The Spartans and Skippers employ lineups with a penchant for racking up kills.

Minnetonka has a 6-3 mark games this season, good for the No. 21 ranking in Class 3A in the state coaches’ association poll.

But when you consider that the Skippers’ have losses to No. 7-3A Roseville and No. 6-3A Eden Prairie, their record looks a little more impressive.

Minnetonka has a loaded front line with seven players standing 6 feet or taller, including senior middle hitter and Lake all-conference selection Lauren Mershon.

After ending a seven-match winning streak with a loss to Rogers at the Mound Westonka Invite on Saturday, Orono bounced back to edge Blake in three sets later that afternoon. The Spartans notched a marquee win on Sept. 1, defeating No. 9-3A Hopkins in four sets.

A head-to-head matchup with two teams that have wins over much higher ranked squads sounds like the perfect pick for the Top Game of the Week.
