The 2015 season kicks off with the annual Breakdown Sports USA Side Out Classic, and the one-day volleyball showcase doesn't disappoint.

Several top-ranked teams square off Saturday at Hopkins High School, but one match in particular steals the spotlight: Hopkins versus Rosemount.

The Royals are ranked No. 4 (tied with Lakeville South) in the Class 3A preseason poll provided by the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association, even after losing 2014 Ms. Volleyball winner Sam Seliger-Swenson and several other key contributors. Junior outside hitter Jasmyn Martin is the key cog in the Royals’ machine, recording 369 kills and 132 digs en route to being named to the Class 3A all-state honorable mention team. The 6-foot-3 Martin has committed to Minnesota.

No. 6-3A Rosemount gets back its own Minnesota commit in senior Brittany McLean. The all-state outside hitter racked up 490 kills and 209 digs last season. She leads a talented Irish squad with seven returning letterwinners looking to reach the state tournament for the first time since 1988.
