Lakeville North volleyball star Alyssa Goehner

Alyssa Goehner, the two-time Star Tribune Metro Volleyball Player of the Year from Lakeville North, announced Monday that she will play for the University of Minnesota next year.

Goehner, a 5-11 outside hitter, had originally committd to Marquette but last week was granted her release because the coach, Bond Shymansky, left to take the head coaching position at Iowa. Goehner had visited Minnesota and Iowa last week before making her final decision.

“It’s home,” Goehner said in a text. “I’m at a top-level volleyball program coached by the former Olympic coach. I get to play with my best friends and my family will be there every step of the way. It’s where I belong.”
