Senior to-be Katie Larson is a multisport athlete at Apple Valley who hopes to play lacrosse in college. On June 18, she played in the Minnesota girls’ lacrosse all-star game.
What was playing in the lacrosse all-star game like? It was all the players that received the all-state award. We were put on teams and played against each other. It was a lot of fun to play against people who are really good and work hard.
How did you get involved in lacrosse? I was a freshman in high school. My neighbor played lacrosse and she told me to play over track and field, so I did.
Do you play other sports, too? I play hockey and I stopped playing soccer after last summer.
Do you find that hockey helps your lacrosse game? It does with the work ethic, being a year-round athlete. The skills transfer over to lacrosse. It really helps me to go fast.
You scored 24 goals in three games last season. Tell me about that. I do whatever it takes to win. If our team is holding back, if someone needs to step up, I definitely try to be that person every game.
Is there a game from last season that stands out in your mind? Probably the game against Eastview because it’s our biggest rival. It was a really close game. We wanted to win really badly.
What do you hope to accomplish in your last high school lacrosse season? This year I got All-American honorable mention. I hope next year to be an All-American for lacrosse.
