Shelby Wassink

Wassink is using the summer to prepare for her senior year at Hastings. She is a libero in volleyball and a shortstop in softball. Here is a closer look at Wassink:

The best movie I’ve seen in the last year? “Safe Haven.”

Three words my friends or teammates might use to describe me: Funny, precise, hard-working.

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are … “A Drop in the Ocean” by Ron Pope, Eminem, Kayne West and Wiz Khalifa; “LA Story” by Sammy Adams; “It’s Tricky” by Run DMC.

What are your three favorite apps? Candy Crush, Vine, Snapchat.

Who do you like to follow the most on Twitter, and why? Just my friends. I don’t like following famous people because they all tweet way too much.

At my first varsity practice, I felt … a little nervous at first being a freshman, but soon enough the awesome upperclassmen on my team made me feel comfortable.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? Somehow having longer seasons; they’re so short!

What is your most memorable moment? Winning the Class 3A softball state tournament in 2011.

Who is your favorite college or pro sports team and why? The University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux. My entire family has gone to UND, and it’s just an amazing school.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? That there’s no substitution for hard work. The only way you’re going to get what you want is by working hard at it.
