St. Thomas Academy defenseman trying to help Cadets win third straight state Class 1A title

Tony Bretzman

Tony Bretzman, a senior defenseman, is trying to help the Cadets win their third consecutive Class 1A championship. Here is closer look at Bretzman, who also plays tennis:

What is the best movie you've seen in the past year? "The Dark Knight Rises."

Three songs I never skip on my iPod ... "Sleepyhead" by Passion Pit; "Rattle" by Bingo Players; "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton.

Who do you like to follow the most on Twitter, and why? I do not really have one favorite account, but my teammate Conor Murphy -- @MurphDogGuideDog -- always keeps me laughing. He is also in the process of writing a memoir soon to be published.

Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Energetic, positive, hard-working.

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... a little intimidated by the bigger guys. Once the adrenaline started to flow and I started to get the feet moving, I felt fine.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? The 2011 state championship 5-4 overtime win over Hermantown my sophomore year.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? I just try to manage my time wisely. Sometimes I will not get home from practice until around 7, in which case I usually will eat a quick dinner and do my homework.

Who is your favorite college or pro sports team and why? I really like the Minnesota Wild right now with their new offseason additions.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? The best advice I have received is to always play with poise/confidence, play as a team and to work hard no matter what the situation. It is amazing what a team can accomplish when no one cares who gets the credit.
