BOYS' HOCKEY

• BLAINE 6, BENILDE-ST. MARGARET'S 5: Not even a four-goal first period for Benilde could keep Blaine from the upset, as the Bengals scored a pair of goals in each period to take down the Class 2A, No. 4 Red Knights. Power plays proved critical, as the Bengals scored the winning goal on one of five power plays -- against none for Benilde -- with the clincher coming at 13:09 in the third period.

• ANDOVER 2, EDEN PRAIRIE 1: Class 2A, No. 19 Andover didn't get many shots off, but the visiting Huskies took advantage of a series of power-play minutes in the second period to upset the Class 2A, No. 9 Eagles. Tyler Tomberlin scored both goals for Andover, and goalkeeper Chase Perry stifled the high-powered Eden Prairie offense, stopping 41 of 42 shots. Both teams are 3-3.

• WHITE BEAR LAKE 5, CRETIN-DERHAM HALL 4 (OT): Cretin-Derham Hall got late third-period goals from Jim Buckingham and Bret Huebner to force a tie, but White Bear Lake junior Sam Anderson found the net five minutes into the overtime period. Senior goalkeeper Max Green stopped 32 shots for the Bears.

• DELANO 5, NEW ULM 3: Senior Eric Ylitalo tallied a hat trick and goalkeeper Brett Norling saved 22 shots as Class 1A, No. 14 Delano beat New Ulm. The Tigers took twice as many shots as the Eagles and improved to 5-2.
