Meet the Star Tribune's picks

The Star Tribune All-Metro volleyball team (left to right): Taylr McNeil of Eagan, Anna Pioske of Waconia, Lydia Dimke of Blaine, Alyssa Goehner of Lakeville North, Samantha Seliger Swenson of Hopkins, and Sarah Wilhite of Eden Prairie

TAYLR MCNEIL

Eagan, jr., outside hitter

A physical player with great size and athletic ability. "She is the glue, the coach on the court," Eagan coach Kathy Gillen-Melville said earlier this season. "She does everything well." Hits with power, digs with confidence and is an excellent passer. Originally committed to the Gophers but reopened the recruiting process and recently committed, along with older sister Kellie, to the University of South Carolina.

ANNA PIOSKE

Waconia, sr., outside hitter

A Wright County Conference coach said Pioske "can do it all: serve, pass, defend and especially hit." Pioske has a 33-inch vertical to go along with solid hitting skills. She established the school record for kills in a season (490) and career (1,312). "A terminator with a natural smile," Waconia coach Jim Lee said. "She has a genuine kindness yet a devastating arm swing."

LYDIA DIMKE

Blaine, jr., setter

The multifaceted Dimke doubles as a setter and hitter. The 6-2 junior was dominant in both aspects when the Bengals won the Eastview Invitational last month. "Highly skilled in every aspect of the game," Blaine coach Celeste Gorman said. "She's been instrumental to our program's success over the last three years."

ALYSSA GOEHNER

Lakeville North, jr.,

outside hitter

Goehner consistently dominates matches from the front and back row. She excels at every part of the game and makes the players around her better. "One of the most dynamic and powerful attackers in the state's history," Lakeville North coach Walt Weaver said. "Also one of the top defensive players in the state."

SAMANTHA SELIGER SWENSON

Hopkins, so., setter

The state's best setter recently committed to Hugh McCutcheon and the Gophers. Seliger Swenson is an outstanding floor general and runs a precision offense. She is an intense competitor and knows how to step up her game against better competition. Seliger Swenson averages more than 13 assists per set and leads the Royals in digs, service aces and serve percentage.

SARAH WILHITE

Eden Prairie, sr., outside hitter

Hopkins coach Vicki Seliger Swenson calls Wilhite "the best six-rotation player in the state who does every skill well." She can take over a match with her hitting or passing and as a defender. Wilhite is a force at the net who can be unstoppable at times. Ranked 14th nationally by PrepVolleyball Senior Aces, Wilhite is headed to Wisconsin.
