Cretin-Derham Hall (10-6, 6-2) coach Ellen Schafer said she couldn’t wait for Scanlan to reach the milestone so the team could focus on closing out Mounds View (12-8, 4-4), which it did — 25-22, 25-18, 25-19.
Schafer said she felt suspense building when Scanlan didn’t hit her six-digs-per-set average in the second set. Then, when Scanlan reached the milestone and onlookers were able to celebrate, it seemed to represent far more than just one individual achieving a difficult goal.

Cretin-Derham Hall’s offense, powered by Emma Honsa, proved too much for Mounds View as the Raiders defeated the Mustangs 25-22, 25-18, 25-19 at Mounds View High School on Tuesday.
Each set began as a tight contest before the Raiders (10-6, 6-2) used scoring runs to build distance between the sides. Honsa racked up a match-best 24 kills, while McKenzie Galvin and Jenna Peschel led the Mustangs (12-8, 4-4) with eight kills each.
The Raiders’ Mia Scanlan reached 1,000 career digs after notching 18 through three sets.
