Park Rapids Area at Perham
7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10

Two of Class 2A, Section 8's best teams this fall collide for a possible North Subsection finals preview when Perham hosts Park Rapids Area. Perham is looking up at the Panthers in the section seeding race, but the Yellowjackets are dangerous.

Senior middle Gabby DeBoer leads Perham (13-10, 3-3) in kills, while junior setter Allie King is anchoring the program in both set assists and service aces.

The Panthers, in their fourth season under coach Stephanie Hanson, are running away with the South Subsection’s top seeding entering the final two weeks. Park Rapids Area is 7-0 against section opponents, well ahead of Pequot Lakes and Perham, their most definitive competition in the subsection. The Panthers also sewed up the Mid-State Conference crown with a sweep of Staples-Motley last week.

Hanson, who led Nevis to four state tournaments in five years between 2009 and 2013, is working her magic at nearby Park Rapids Area (15-2, 4-0), which seeks its first state tournament berth in program history.

Senior middle hitter Jaiden McCollum leads four Panthers with triple-digit kills with 219, while sophomore Kennedy Carlson has 196 kills and a team-best 228 digs. Carlson also leads the team with 599 set assists, showing her well-rounded game.
