Stewartville vs. Hayfield
7:15 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 26

For the second time in two weeks, Stewartville faces a Hiawatha Valley League foe bent on ending the Tigers’ dominance.

Stewartville (10-1) only had one match last week, but it was a big one, as the No. 2-2A Tigers defeated conference rival Kenyon-Wanamingo in a five-set marathon. Stewartville lost the first two sets and seemed on the ropes, but rallied to take the final three, including a 15-13 edge in the fifth set.

The Tigers remained unbeaten in league play at 5-0, but now have to travel to Hayfield, which is 5-1 in the Hiawatha Valley, Tuesday night.

Stewartville is young on the attack, with sophomore Kaitlyn Prondzinski and freshman Erin Lamb leading the team in kills, but experienced in getting the ball to them with senior setter Kailee Brower.

Hayfield stumbled twice in the Class A/A Showcase in Burnsville over the weekend, falling to No. 8-1A Waterville-Elysian-Morristown and unranked MACCRAY, both in straight sets.

Five-foot-11 senior setter Maggie Streightiff and senior middle Kate Kruger form a tough attacking front line for the No. 5-1A Vikings (13-3), while senior outside hitter Carrie Rutledge and sophomore libero Cela Carney anchor the back row with their defense.
