Champlin Park vs. Maple Grove
7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 28

Champlin Park (11-1) was one of the few top teams not involved in a tournament last weekend, but did win both of its matches during the week, sweeping both Elk River and Chaska.

The No. 3-3A Rebels’ only loss on the season came over two weeks ago to No. 2-3A Lakeville North in the Southwest Minnesota Challenge in Marshall.

Juniors Emma Schmidt and Izzy Ashburn continue to be 1-2 in some order in both kills (Schmidt with 158 and Ashburn with 112) and set assists (Ashburn with 247; Schmidt with 137) for the Rebels. They’re also 2-3 in digs (Schmidt with 93; Ashburn with 90) behind junior Kaitlyn Weimerskirch (141) and Ashburn leads the team with 25 service aces. Perhaps it goes without saying, but Champlin Park has been paced by a terrific junior class.

Maple Grove hasn’t jumped into the top-10 rankings yet, but the Crimson (11-0) are close — tied for 11th with Moorhead — and a victory against Champlin Park would certainly propel them there. It’s also a big match in the Northwest Suburban Conference, as both teams are a perfect 4-0.

Junior Alexie Pryd leads the Crimson with 119 kills and junior Zoe Brown has 275 set assists and 18 service aces to pace the team in both categories.
