Melrose at Sauk Centre
7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 7

Two of the top programs in Central Minnesota lock horns Tuesday as Sauk Centre hosts Melrose in a battle for the West Central North Conference crown.

Speaking of teams looking forward to this fall? Melrose has been on that track with a strong crew of seniors hoping to earn the program’s first state tournament berth. They’ve responded with a big season, going undefeated in the conference heading into this week.

The Dutchmen already knocked off the Mainstreeters once, a 3-1 victory Sept. 2 at home. A win in the rematch would give them the outright league crown.

Melrose goes as senior setter Emily Goerdt, the conference's reigning most valuable player, leads them.

Sauk Centre coach Jim Klaphake has his Mainstreeters right in the thick of state tournament discussions despite dealing with graduation losses again. The program has been to three of the last four state tournaments.
