Wayzata at Hopkins
7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 9

After starting the season with three straight victories, Hopkins hit a speed bump in the past week that likely will drop the No. 4-3A Royals down the polls when they come out later this week. But there was no shame in losing to No. 3-3A Chaska or in a five-set grind-it-out match against Roseville. Hopkins dropped the first two sets to the Raiders, but then stormed back to force a fifth set that went to extra points. There were eight ties and six lead changes before No. 8-3A Roseville claimed a 19-17 win. Wayzata received votes in last week’s poll and has a 6-2 record through the first two weeks of the season. The Trojans advanced all the way to the finals of the prestigious Southwest MN Challenge in Marshall before losing to Chaska. Sophomore outside hitter Kate Berg looks like a future star for the Trojans, who also have an elite young setter in sophomore MacKenzie Groechel.
